Crete

The island of Crete in Greece is the largest Greek island and the 5th largest island in the Mediterranean. The capital and the largest city of Crete is Heraklion, and the region has a population of almost 650,000people. Crete is a big part of the economy of Greece, both in heritage, industry, and tourism.

Visiting Crete is like visiting another country entirely. It’s a good idea to hire a car and explore as much as possible. There is significant diversity across the island and you need at least a week to really do it justice, and preferably two or three.

Most tourists stick to the Northern towns and villages whilst the South retains the most authenticity and has few crowds.
