PAROS
It’s easy to see why many people regard Paros as the quintessential Greek Island.
Located in the heart of the Cyclades Islands in Greece there are over 120kms of coastline and 10,000 inhabitants. Beautiful beaches, medieval villages, wineries, harbours and easy access to neighbouring islands, they say Paros is like Mykonos was 20 years ago. It has all the charm and atmosphere but without the crowds and the steep prices, particularly in summer.
There are two large towns, the Port town of Parikia and the more cosmopolitan and lively town of Naoussa in the north. Both are lovely and offer something for everyone. There is also the magical inland village of Lefkas in the hills and numerous beachside villages dotted around the island.
The island is a good size that allows a full loop as a day trip but not so small you run out of things to do or places to explore.
There’s a good reason why Paros is a perennial favourite for so many visitors.

What to expect
A mid-sized island with polished towns, great beaches and plenty to do. Expect boat trips, beach clubs, shopping and easy exploring. Prices sit in the mid- to high-range, especially in the glossy corners like Naoussa. It is very popular, so restaurants and transport are well set up, and the vibe is lively and quite cosmopolitan.
Language: Greek, but most people in tourist areas speak English ( and more)
Currency: Euro
Credit Cards and ATMs: There are many ATMs in Paro. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, and in fact, it is illegal for taxis, hotels and any business working in tourism not to accept them. Its a good idea to carry a small amount of cash for things like buses, tips and toilets.
Plugs: The plugs in Greece are Type C and F. The standard voltage is 230 V, and the standard frequency is 50Hz. For many people, appliances and devices will work fine, but if you are from the USA, you will need a dual-voltage styling iron or hair dryer.

Best time to visit Paros
The season runs from Easter to Mid-October each year. The best time is June and late September.

How long to go for
At least 3 nights

How to get around Paros
The bus system works well, but in summer, you may want to rent a nice little air-conditioned car.
There are a few private drivers and a limited number of taxis. No Uber or ride sharing.
Many people also hire ATVs and Scooters.
Where to stay in Paros
There are two main towns on Paros: Parikia, the port town, and Naoussa, about 20 minutes north.
Naoussa is more upmarket, chic and popular due to its beautiful fishing harbour and amazing dining scene. It is also more expensive.
Some people may also stay in the interior village of Lefkas, or in beachside villages such as Aliki, Piso Livadi, or Santa Maria.
Which hotels are best for families?
We’ve always stayed with our kids in a family room at Paliomylos Hotel. Adonis is right next door and also has several lovely 2-bedroom suites with great views.
Other budget-friendly places that are great are Dafni’s Philoxenia and Bungalows Marina, both right in Naoussa yet fairly quiet too.
Ricos House is a charming, fully equipped 2-bedroom house with a short walk to everything, in a beautiful garden setting. You’ll have a very local experience here! Or Villa Isabella has a great family suite with two connected studios, two bathrooms and great views from the big terrace.
